Linux Lite 4.4 Officially Released
Linux Lite 4.4, the latest version of Linux Lite, has been officially released and is now available for download and installation.
As we know, Linux Lite is a lightweight Linux replacement that’s so easy to use that even beginners can handle it easily. Now, the developers of Linux Lite have come up with the latest version of this open-source operating system- Linux Lite 4.4 Final. This new release, which is based on Ubuntu 18.04.2, is powered by Linux kernel 4.15.0-45.
The final release of Linux Lite 4.4 Final was announced on March 31, 2019, by Linux Lite project manager Jerry Bezencon.
Reporting the release of Linux Lite 4.4., Fossbytes, the leading source of technology news on the internet, notes, “For existing Lite users, this release might not be exciting as it seems like simply a way to refresh the ISO images and inculcate the minor changes and fixes made over the past few months.”
The developers have stated that the final release has come with a number of minor changes. The release announcement explains the changes- “Moved from Betas to RC releases. The RC releases Build number is the date of the actual ISO build eg. Build 24022019 – 24th February 2019. The RC information and Build number will only appear on the default wallpaper for that release, Login screen, and the Live Boot screen. The positioning of the text is such that it allows room for desktop widgets like Conky and Lite Widget to appear uncluttered on the right. Finals will not have any build information on the default wallpaper.”
The Papirus icon theme has been updated and Sound Juicer CD ripper has now been added to the OS. Moreover, the double level volume bug has been eliminated and all references to Google Plus have been removed. The project has now moved from Sourceforge distributed servers to OSDN. The release announcement explains, “We have moved from Sourceforge distributed servers to OSDN as OSDN will help to finance our project. Their systems and mirror choices are virtually similar.”
Linux Lite 4.4 ships with the usual set of updated software packages; these include Firefox 65.0 (Quantum), Thunderbird 60.4.0, VLC 3.0.4, GIMP 2.10.8 and LibreOffice 6.0.7.3.
The developers, in the release-related post, say, “RC1 was a solid release where no hiccups were reported. As such, this 4.4 Final is basically the RC1 with only the wallpaper changed. Therefore, if you have 4.4 RC1 installed but want the Final, RC1 IS the Final. One caveat, since there were no updates to the build from RC1 to Final, your first updates will be a big one.”
While the minimum recommended specs for running Linux Lite 4.4 would be 1Ghz processor, 768mb ram, 8gb HDD/SD, VGA screen capable of 1024×768 resolution and DVD drive or USB port for the ISO image, the preferred requirements, however, would be 1.5GHz processor+, 1024mb ram+, 20gb HDD/SSD+, VGA, DVI or HDMI screen capable of 1366×768 resolution+ and DVD drive or USB port.
