Antivirus cannot detect every infection and threat out there as they are constantly evolving. They are good at catching malware which spread through traditional methods like USB and Email attachments and depends on threat signatures for detection.

Anti-Malware is designed to detect newer malware from spreading through zero-day exploit, malvertising or any sophisticated form of communication like social media or messaging. For protection against advanced malware and new dangerous threats, Anti-Malware is the must.

Spam protection is used for blocking spam emails with infected attachments or suspicious links for fake and phishing websites.

Difference between antivirus and antimalware

  • Anti-virus is specific.
  • Anti-malware is general.
  • Antivirus normally deals with the older, more established threats, such as Trojans, viruses, and worms.
  • Anti-malware by contrast, typically focuses on newer stuff, such as polymorphic malware and malware delivered by zero-day exploits.
  • Antivirus secure users from lingering, predictable-yet-still-dangerous malware.
  • Anti-malware secure users from the latest, currently in the wild, and even more dangerous threats.
  • Antivirus can remove the viruses.
  • Anti-malware is includes trojans, viruses, spyware, adware, worms, rootkits, phishing.

Antivirus software work with more of a traditional approach and depends on threat signatures to detect malware. Hence it won’t be effective in catching all new, evolving threats. Antimalware software are more advanced and detect all kinds of malware. Such software stop advanced malware from spreading. Spam protection is all about blocking spam emails and detecting malicious links/attachments and helps protect against phishing attacks.
