I have just bought a Laptop which has XP installed, I've got a firewall, but no virus protection.I would like to download Antivirus onto it. Is AVG okay, is there any good antivirus other than AVG?

AVG is good, you can go for it. I have been using it for so many years now. It works awesome.!! The only thing is that you must keep updating it!

AVG is a very old and reputed antivirus software, but yet it is not the best. Once if it gets outdated even after updating it could not detect and delete the latest version of viruses. Although if you manually scan the source file it can quarantine it but cant completely recover it. The biggest problem with AVG secretly installs AVG utility while updating which is a Spam and its open back door for bigger virus related problem. And most virus disables the AVG and in few case, AVG cant quantizes the infected file and directly deletes it(mostly system files). But you can try a very recent anti-virus from the link below and it is the most efficient I had personally used it. It tackled the virus which was created previous year in August from which I was infected.
