Can anyone explain me in detail difference between threat, vulnerability and a risk?

Threat, Vulnerability and Risk - these factors are related to cybersecurity and cyber attacks

A threat is an agent that may want to or definitely can result in harm to the target organization. Threats include organized crime, spyware, malware, adware companies, and disgruntled internal employees who start attacking their employer.

Vulnerability – Weaknesses or gaps in a security program that can be exploited by threats to gain unauthorized access to an asset.

Risk is where threat and vulnerability overlap. That is, we get a risk when our systems have a vulnerability that a given threat can attack.

Threat - A threat is something that may or may not happen, but if happens it has the potential to cause serious damage.

Vulnerability - A vulnerability is a security risk in a software program that puts the program or computer at danger of malicious programs.

Risk - Computer security risks can be created by malware that can infect your computer and put system and organization in a huge damage.

In common, Threat, vulnerability and Risk are the event or action that could cause a loss of or damage to computer hardware, software, data, information, or processing capability.

Generally in business thinking the terms risk and threat are similar. You posted your question in computer science so my answer might be off here, but anyway 🙂

Threat – Anything that can exploit a vulnerability, intentionally or accidentally, and obtain, damage, or destroy an asset.

Vulnerability – Weaknesses or gaps in a security program that can be exploited by threats to gain unauthorized access to an asset.

Risk – The potential for loss, damage or destruction of an computer security as a result of a threat exploiting a vulnerability.

Threat is warning for you to behave yourself. The person who threaten you is upset with your behaviour, action and body language etc.

Vulnerability is you are susceptible to certain issues, your weak point, you can be manipulated to do certain things against your will.

Risk is again, taking chances to solve a problem. you think of the pros and cons of a situation and take action to get decisive results. In movies Hero says taking risk is like eating rusk.

A vulnerability is a weakness or gap in our protection efforts. Risk – The potential for loss, damage or destruction of an asset as a result of a threat exploiting a vulnerability. If you don't understand the difference, you'll never understand the true risk to assets.

1. Threat- Anything that can misuse a vulnerability, purposefully or inadvertently, and acquire, harm, or damage a systeme.

A threat is what we're attempting to secure against.

2. Vulnerability or holes in a security program that can be exploited by cyber criminals to gain access into the system.
A vulnerability is a shortcoming or hole in our security.

3. Risk – The potential for loss, damage or destruction of an asset as a result of a threat exploiting a vulnerability.

Risk is the intersection of assets, threats, and vulnerabilities.

I’d say it’s quite simple to understand…a vulnerability is a weakness or flaw (imagine a security hole) in a device or program that allows a hacker to try accessing the device/program or the data in it. A threat is anything (malware, spyware, adware, any other kind of organized crime, a dissatisfied and disgruntled employee) that can attack a network, an organization or a system/device. When there is a threat all set to target you and when there is a vulnerability that it can exploit, it’s a risk.

A threat is any potential danger to information or systems. Vulnerability describes the circumstances of a system that makes it susceptible to damage. A risk is the likelihood of a threat taking advantage of a vulnerability.
