It's mentions to a hole in software that is unknown to the marketer. This security hole is then employed by hackers before the marketer becomes aware and hurries to fix it this exploit is called a zero day attack.

A zero day vulnerability is simply a vulnerability that has been discovered and its information released and can be used by hackers before antivirus manufacturers or the OEM of the software, etc. can write and update a the code to prevent this vulnerability from being exploited.

Eg: A new virus, worm or Trojan. Another popular example is an exploit in say Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat or Microsoft Windows, (in all such cases there will be a time delay before a patch can be issued to fix the vulnerability).

A zero-day vulnerability is a hole or flaw in a software program for which there is no patch or fix, usually because the vulnerability is unknown to the software vendor. The term comes from the fact that developers have "zero days" from the time the flaw is discovered to protect against a possible cyber attack. In some cases, an attack itself is the first indication the security problem exists...

A zero day vulnerability is a type of unknown or unanticipated software flaw or security hole in an IT system that can be exploited by hackers. On a given day, IT professionals may refer to a number of zero day vulnerabilities.
